Northern Illinois Native Ecosystem - Installation Design

neitrees.jpg

Design Challenge:

The Northern Illinois Ecosystem Insulation was the idea of Dr. Beth Kirkpatrick, and is a permanent piece in the art collection of the College of DuPage. This design challenge was a collaborative five person team assigned to use this blank paneled two story space to educate viewers about native bird species in Illinois.

Solution:

As the conceptual architect I strove to not only display birds but also demonstrated realistic functioning ecosystems birds live in. This included plants. There are 100+ plant and animal species represented. Over a four month period each element was drawn in Illustrator as a vector, scaled, painted in Photoshop and then assembled to reflect the original composition reflected in the accompanying 2’x3’species key. In its entirety this project is 20’ high and 5’ across and consists of six Plexiglas panels.
